Oakley Family Pictures

1928-1960's
|

1928 when Nanny was at her first
communion at age 6. She was supposed to be wearing white shoes, but on the
way to the communion, she got them all dirty. Her
mother made her put on the black shoes.

1939 Just after Stan had joined the
Royal Montreal Regiment. Years later he said she dazzled him as she was so full of
life. He knew his mother would not like her but did not care. His dad loved my Lorraine (Nanny) as she
was different.

A picture of the family at
the old house taken outside the front porch

This is a picture of Barbara, Nanny
and Allan taken just after Nanny left Stan and moved into the upstairs apartment at 3150
30th Ave. Nanny just bought the two tone Chevy Belair. We were broke but lived like kings.
Nanny worked double time just to give us a life that was happy. The rent was $60 a month
and we had a scary garage that took me years to enter. We had a very large balcony above
the garage that not only had a cottage style shed but also an above ground pool.

3150 31st street. Laval West. We
rented the upstairs apartment above the garage. The Pappins rented the front part of the house. I thought they
were very rich.

Allan riding a horse back in 1963 up
in St. Agate when the family was on vacation. We stayed at the Holiday Inn which had a large pool. We also went riding down a ski
mountain that was covered with sawdust on a
scooter with over-sized tires called a ski roule. This mountain later became named Avilla, still a ski resort today.

-Captain Allan

1962 on a cruise up Saguenay river.
Apparently Allan asked an old women who was sitting at their table to dance the waltz. She
accepted and the whole dance floor cleared to let them dance. Nanny was a real flirt but
she loved to party. She worked a whole year so we could go on this cruise.

Saw the statue on the
mountain side and Ave Maria was played. Children were allowed to gamble if
supervised by their parents. Barbara was real miserable as she wanted to stay
home with her friends.
